Why Kigali 2020 Bishops Conference?
Matthew 28:18-20 – Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
In some parts of the Anglican Communion and provinces today, Jesus’ words are sadly being bent to the world and secular, as opposed to faithfully proclaiming his Word, obeying His commands and loving others.
This is a crucial time for Global Anglican bishops.
From June 9 – 14, in Kigali, Rwanda, faithful bishops will come together to share their joys, their struggles, and encourage one another to remain steadfast. Our hope is that they will be invigorated to go back to their dioceses, renewed in their calling to lead God’s people in the great task of proclaiming Christ faithfully to the nations.
The conference theme: Consecrated to Christ
The profoundly biblical Service of Consecration, the Ordinal, of the 1662 Book of Common Prayer which is the origin of such services around the Communion will shape the conference teaching. Under the leadership of Gafcon General Secretary, Archbishop Ben Kwashi, the teaching will be based on four great themes which are integral to the vows that bishops take:
Leader: Loving Jesus WATCH here
Evangelist: Loving the lost WATCH here
Teacher: Loving the Word WATCH here
Shepherd: Loving the church WATCH here
The teaching will focus on what it means to be a faithful leader and how, by the power of the Holy Spirit, bishops can lead us in being the people of God who love Jesus, love His Word, love His church and win souls for Christ.
